MA1440

The Yaskawa Motoman MA1440 is a dedicated 3 kg payload arc welding robot with a 1,440 mm reach, designed as a purpose-built welding platform rather than a general-purpose robot adapted for welding use. Through-arm cable management routes the torch cable, gas hose, and wire liner through the interior of the arm from the base to the wrist, eliminating external dress packs that create interference risk and require frequent replacement due to flexing wear. This design maintains consistent torch orientation throughout the weld path, which is critical for weld quality repeatability.

The MA1440 features fast axis speeds optimized for the travel rates and path execution demands of continuous arc welding, with a rigid arm structure that minimizes path deviation during high-speed seam welding. The sealed joint design resists the spatter, fume, and heat exposure of production welding environments. Yaskawa’s weld-specific motion control algorithms smooth velocity transitions during weld path execution, preventing the arc disturbances caused by abrupt axis speed changes during seam welding.

Compatible with DX100 and DX200 controllers, the MA1440 supports Yaskawa’s arc welding software suite including weld condition management, touch sensing, seam tracking, and multi-layer welding functions. The DX200 platform adds expanded connectivity and functional safety options. Coordinated motion between the MA1440 and external axis positioners enables synchronized robot-positioner welding for complex seam geometries. MotoSim offline programming supports weld path development and simulation.
