The ABB IRB 4600-40/2.55 is a 40 kg payload robot with a 2,550 mm reach from ABB’s IRB 4600 series, combining a higher payload with an extended reach that spans applications from automotive spot welding and machine tending to flexible assembly and heavy material handling. The 40 kg payload supports medium-weight spot welding guns, large grippers, and multi-function EOAT configurations that exceed the capacity of the IRB 2600 series, positioning the 4600-40/2.55 as a versatile platform across a broad range of manufacturing applications.

The IRB 4600-40/2.55 features a compact, well-balanced arm design for its payload and reach class, with a small installation footprint that allows tight cell layouts. Floor, inverted, and tilted mounting options provide flexibility in both conventional floor cells and overhead gantry configurations. IP54 standard protection with IP67 wrist enables operation in environments with coolant exposure and contamination, appropriate for machine tending and light press room applications.

Operating on the IRC5 controller in single, dual, or panel-mounted configurations, the IRB 4600-40/2.55 supports ABB’s full software suite including SafeMove2 functional safety, multitasking, collision detection, and the complete range of ABB application packages. RobotStudio offline programming enables cell simulation and program development. The programming environment is consistent with all IRC5-based ABB robots, allowing technicians to work across the full ABB portfolio without model-specific retraining.
